1984: The Product of GM’s Adventurous Venture

The car Chevrolet called the Nova was the same car Toyota called the Sprinter in Japan, was originally aptly called Venture.  It was essentially a four door notch-back sedan with a six window glass treatment in the greenhouse.  In the Japanese domestic market, the Sprinter was an upscale car, a more conservative and expensive version of the Corolla.  When Chevy went browsing through the Toyota sales catalog the Sprinter was a natural choice because the Venture would have no direct competition in Toyota showrooms.  According to the Chevy game plan, the car was slotted right between the Spectrum and the Cavalier.  Pricing fell somewhere between the two also. The Venture name was eventually dumped, with Chevrolet Nova the favored appellation within General Motors.

I remember Nova which was replaced by the GEO line and the Prism. It is interesting how things have changed.
