1985 Pontiac 6000 STE & Fiero GT Test Drive

1986-Pontiac-6000STE2

The big news for 1985 from General Motors was a mixed bag of good and not so good.  For instance, the Fiero finally got a V-6 engine, plus requisite suspension upgrades, but it wasn’t available until the 1985 calendar year and it would not have a 5-speed manual  The Fiero GT, as the V-6 cars were called, were only available with the 4-speed manual as standard and automatic as an option.

The front-drive 6000 featured new front and rear bumper fascias and a cleaner, more horizontal grille on base and LE models.  Inside the 6000 was fitted with a backlit instrument cluster. The high-profile low-production 6000 STE featured a 130-hp version of the 2.8-liter 60 degree V-6 power plant.  The port fuel-injected engine was mated to GM’s 3-speed automatic transaxle.  Outside, new tail lamps identified the 1985 model STE.
