1986 Buick Riviera T-Type Test Drive

1986-Buick-Riviera2

Another new car with an old name and again the new one was shorter and lighter than the old one.  The Font of the body tapered, probably for aerodynamics and style, and the rear of the roof was thinner than ton previous Riviera’s, less obviously truncated and that was all to the good.

It was plush inside, as you’d expect.  The 3.8-liter V-6 had a different cam (no rollers) and lower (142 bhp) power rating here than in the LeSabre.  Because the Riviera was smaller, it was more nimble.

The lasting impression , though, was how much more firm and responsive the T-Type Riviera was than the standard 1986 Riviera. The second impression was that the body wasn’t nearly as distinctive as the neoclassic original Riviera of 1963.
