1986 Mercury Lynx Test Drive
Companion to the Ford Escort in FoMoCo’s compact lineup, was the Mercury Lynx, offered in an identical range of bodystyles. Mercury definitely hewed to tradition with the Lynx, marketed with ever so slightly better trim and higher prices than the Ford. Restyled the year prior with flush Sable-esque styling treatment upfront, why change a winner. The higher end performance oriented XR3 too returned as a duplicate to the ‘lesser’ Escort GT, with functional aero spats and attractive 15″, four spoked wheels. With enough charm to enamor a parking lot attendant out of a citation, anybody wise enough to choose a Lynx deserves a little special consideration.
