1986: Was Mark to go FWD?

Debate was raging in Dearborn over the direction the successor to the Lincoln Mark VII was to take. Some suggested that it should remain front engine rear drive, particularly since arch rival Cadillac had abandoned that traditional formula, but the guess was that the next Mark would be based on a front wheel drive Taurus derived platform.
