Two specialty cars and a new 4-cylinder engine topped the Oldsmobile introductions for 1987. Again, this was a GM division that talked of “targeting new product entries toward younger buyers” and, again the new entries were nothing more than variations of existing themes. Completely redesigned in 1986, the Royale and Royale Brougham coupes and sedans received new composite headlamps, side marker lamps, front and rear treatments including tail lamps. Powered only by the familiar 3.8-liter V6, this full-size front driver won more than 20 percent of Oldsmobile sales.
