1989 Buick Reatta Manufacturers Promo
This two-seat coupe was introduced with much less fanfare than Cadillac’s Allante. Yet the Reatta was a relative sales smash, while the Allante remained nailed to the showroom floor. It wasn’t simply the fact that the Reatta cost half as much. The Reatta was also a more dramatic looking car, in a market segment where eye appeal and innovation were paramount.
The theory behind the Reatta was that it gave bucks-up buyers the sportiness and style of a two-seater but with more comfort and luxury. This theory didn’t help Cadillac’s Allante, but it was the ticket for the Mercedes-Benz 560SL.
