Recognizing the error of its downsizing ways, Buick added 11 inches to the tail of the 1989 Riviera, plus more chrome and a cushier ride. Buick’s flagship used to have an uncanny resemblance to a smaller Buick, which diluted its prestige considerably. A sleeker, longer Riv joined up in 1989, replete with new bodywork to regain the affection of the defectors and Buick’s own. Dynaride suspension to keep them there. As such, the Riv’s identity no longer was in doubt. Handlin was more aggressive with the Level III suspension and quite good, for a car like the Riviera.
