1994 Ford Thunderbird & Mercury Cougar Preview
Out of phase.
These coupes lost their popularity because they had not effectively adapted to the restraints of the time. Born too large and too heavy, they had no sportiness other than their name and styling, and a model from the Taurus SHO would be much more appreciated by the enthusiasts. From an identical platform and mechanics, these two coupes each offerws a different diametrically opposed personality. The Thunderbird was sporty, while the Cougar luxurious. The Thunderbird was sold in models LX and SC, and the Cougar only as the XR7. The 3.8L-V6 naturally aspirated isn’t in the Cougar XR7 and the basic T-bird, while that of the sporty SC comes with a compressor from Roots. The 5.0L-V8, replaced this year with the 4.6L, is an option on the T-Bird and XR7 basic models.
