Chevrolet introduced its Lumina four-door sedan in early 1989 as a 1990 model.  Along with the two-door version, which debuted in September 1989 the Lumina replaced two significant and popular Chevrolet models, the Monte Carlo and Celebrity.  Both Luminas were front wheel drive cars based on General Motors GM-10 platform.  Their standard equipment included four wheel disc brake, an independent rear suspension utilizing a plastic transverse leaf spring, and front suspension consisting of coil springs, struts, control arms, and a stabilizer bar.1990-chevrolet-lumina6

Since sporting variations of both the Monte Carlo and Celebrity had long been a part of their product lineup it was not surprising that Euro versions of the Lumina coupes and sedans were offered.  Both had the expected exterior and interior trim accents such as a rear decklid spoiler, sport suspension, P195/70R15 all season steel belted radial tires, fifteen inch wheel and aero wheel-covers.  The Euro models were also available with sixteen inch cast-aluminum wheels and P215/60R16 touring tires.  The standard four-door, riding a 107.5-inch wheelbase, took some 55 percent of the line’s 295,007 debut-year sales.
