It was 1991, and Chrysler had just launched its second-generation minivans, wonderful vehicles whose styling was nonetheless painfully conservative. To combat the glut of racier-looking minivans on the Market, Chrysler said it was “considering building a limited edition minivan for enthusiasts, possibly powered by a DOHC 24-valve version of the existing V-6.” That all-wheel-drive “sports van” would be lower, fatter, and far more aerodynamic than its pentastar stablemates and was said to have been influenced in part by the styling of the Toyota Previa.
