1991 Jeep Wrangler Promo – vs GEO Tracker Isuzu Amigo and Daihatsu Rocky
The major news for 1991 was that the Wrangler was finally available with the same 40-liter inline six-cylinder engine that made the Cherokee the most powerful vehicle in its class for the previous few years. It put out 177 horsepower, a dramatic increase over the 112-horsepower with the 4.2-liter engine.
The Wrangler was still the original sport-utility vehicle, the direct descendant of the WWII Jeeps that our G.I.’s loved. The CJ (civilian Jeep) series lasted from the 1940s until the mid 1980s, when the Wrangler showed up.
There were now five variants of the Wrangler: the ‘S”, base model, Islander, Sahara, Laredo and Renegade. All except the Laredo and Renegade had a four-cylinder engine as standard equipment. That engine was only available with a 5-speed manual transmission.
