1992 Honda Civic Test Drive

After thriving for 20 years in the U.S. marketplace, Honda’s trendsetting Civic line was introduced in its fifth iteration. Only the body configurations – either a 2-door hatchback or 4-door sedan – were carried over into 1992 versions virtually everything else was replaced.
Gone was the shape of old, replaced by a look that was simultaneously smoother and more derivative of other designs. The new shells were larger, stiffer, and heavier as well.
But if outward appearances weren’t typical of what we came to expect from Honda, the engineering underneath certainly was. No fewer than four engines were developed for Civic duties a base 70-bhp 1.5-liter 8-valve unit was joined by two 16-valve powerplants of the same size (92 and 102 bhp), and a 1.6-liter 16-valver that put out a rousing 125 horsepower.
