Pontiac’s most popular car got a new look for 1992. Grand Am now shared much of its platform with the Chevrolet Beretta and Corsica.  Its wheelbase was unchanged at 103.4 inches, but the body was longer by 6.7 inches and wider by two.  Interior dimensions were virtually unaltered.  Two-door coupe and 4-door sedan versions returned, but now they had different roof-lines and the rear doors of the sedan opened wider.

Trim levels thinned to just SE and the sportier GT.  Anti-lock brakes, offered previously only on the SE, were new standard on both.  Aero body cladding and body colored 16-inch wheels marked the GT. he new 8-valve Quad OHC version of the 2.3-liter 4-cylinder Quad 4 was Grand Am’s new standard engine.  The twin-cam, 16-vale Quad 4 was optional on SE, standard on GT.  A V6 returned to the line after four years in 3.3-liter form.

Sales leaped to over 119,000 .
