1994 Nissan Axxess Test Drive
The Axxess was not a mini-van, but more like a wagon in two compartments with four-doors and a cabin higher than the average. Its rear side sliding doors gave it its greatest originality. It was available in versions of front-wheel-drive XE or SE and 4-wheel-drive SE. The common engine in the two models was the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 12-valves identical to that in the Altima, the 240SX and the base Hard-Body.
Caught between the compact mini-vans and the station wagons, Axxess found a very particular niche. Even though it wasn’t sold in the United States after the 1990 only model year, it pursued an interesting career in Canada. Its sales kept up, proving that it responded to a particular need.
