1994: Not Your Typical Mercedes-Benz Fare, eh?
The first issue that came out of Mercedes-Benz’ new Vance Alabama plant was the M-class Sport Utility vehicle, first seen in early 1997 as a 1998 model. The plan was for a long-wheelbase 4-door and a short-wheelbase 2-door. If Mercedes-Benz American foray into the rugged lifestyle was a hit, the company was even considering doing a pickup truck.
