1994 Volvo 850 GLT SportWagon Test Drive
Volvo, a conservative and safety conscious Swedish car maker, surprised the motor industry in 1992. It’s not something that happens often, but Volvo certainly did it when it decided to launch the 850 sedan.
Not only was it less boxy than the manufacturers previous cars, but it also featured some interesting technology – a five cylinder transverse engine, and a Delta-link rear suspension – and was actually enjoyable to drive. That didn’t seem to be surprising enough for the newly enlivened Volvo. In 1993 the company revealed the T5 – a turbocharged version of the 850, which could show a clean set of Michelins to even the most beefy BMW, something t a few of it’s owners relished.
