1995 BMW 540i Test Drive
This mid-sized BMW was back to play in 1995 with its tantalizing line of sport sedans. There were five models and three engines from which to choose. At the bottom of the pack was the 525i sedan, powered by a 2.5-liter/189-horsepower inline-six; a wagon version, dubbed the “Touring” also was available. Next up was the 3.0-liter/215-horsepower 530i, but if a V-8 sedan was more your style, there was the excellent 4.0-liter/282-horsepower 540i, with the new six-speed manual. with sport seats and larger rubber, it was a real scorcher.
