1995 Toyota Tacoma & T100 Test Drive

1995-toyota2

Toyota redesigned and renamed its compact pickup, the best selling imported brand truck in America for 1995. The Tacoma replaced the ‘Toyota Pickup’, and included a drivers side air bag, three new engines and available 4-wheel anti-lock brakes among the major changes. The new pickup was designed at Toyota’s California design studio and was built exclusively in Cali1995-toyota3fornia at the plant by Toyota and General Motors.

Toyota added an extended cab body style to its full-size(ish) T100 pickup line. The extended cab was called Xtracab, seated up to six with the standard front bench seat and forward facing 3-passenger rear seat. The front seat was split 60-40 and the passenger’s side slid forward when the seat back was released for easier entry to the rear. The rear seat cushion was split 50/50 and could be folded for added cargo room. The Xtracab’s 77 inch cargo bed was 221 inches shorter than the regular-cab’s.

Toyota said it answered the two biggest complaints about the T100: no extended cab and not enough power. Toyota added a new 190-horsepower 3.4 liter V-6 engine, making the T100 quicker to 60mph than full-size domestic trucks with V-8 engines.
