11996 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Test Drive
There would be a new fifth-generation Corvette in 1997, but that didn’t mean that the fourth-generation version would go out with a whimper. Note the auspicious arrival of the LT4 5.7-liter v-8: The 1996 Corvette rumbled to the tune of 330-horsepower fed through a six-speed manual transmission. Automatic-equipped cars were driven by the familiar 300-horse LT1. Sentimentalists could choose the specially equipped Collector Edition with its unique colors, badging, and wheels. Better still, hark back to the racing legends of the 1960’s and opt for the blue-and-white Grand Sport, only would be built. On a sad note, the 405-horse ZR-1 was discontinued.
