01996 Honda Civic LX Sedan Test Drive
Like clockwork, Honda redesigned the Civic every four years since 1980. The sixth-generation Civic continued to be offered as a coupe, sedan, and a hatchback body styles, but the Si sportster version of the hatch was history. The coupe HX did mega-mileage duty (and was available with a continuously variable automatic transmission), the hatchback CX was the cheapest model, and the luxo-spec EX package could be applied to either coupe or sedan. While all three were available in standard DX form, the sedan also came in a midlevel LX. All Civic model permutations were powered by 1.6-liter SOHC fours ranging from the DXs 106 horsepower to the EX’s VTEC-inspired 127.
