1998 Ford Escort ZX2 Test Drive
Ford sold Escorts by the ton, a task made easier by this vehicle’s inherent goodness. Whether in sedan form or as a sporty ZX2 coupe, the Escort was a high-value, high-satisfaction small car. Aside from a couple of new exterior colors and a new interior trim hue, the basic Escort carried over intact for the new year. Available as a practical sedan or wagon, the Escort had usable interior dimensions, good ride, was quiet, and did a pretty convincing impression of the bigger, more expensive Contour. If you felt a little more adventurous, how about the ZX2 Coupe with its 2.0-liter/130-horsepower Zetec engine? It delivered 7.8-second 0-mph acceleration, and more than a little sporting fun.
