1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue Test Drive
Oldsmobile’s take on the perfect family sedan mixed the precise, quality feel of the best imports with a uniquely American (and very appealing) powertrain. Mechanically related to the Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, the Intrigue offered interior comfort and roominess on a par with Camry and Maxima. Ride and handling struck a good compromise in the base level suspension, with a sportier autobahn package optional. The Intrique’s principal point of differentiation from import competitors was its big-displacement 3.8-liter/195-horsepower OHV V-6. Though not as technologically elaborate as the multi-cam imports, it had more torque, great acceleration, and superior fuel economy.
