01999 Mercedes Benz Vision SLR Concept Car
Sharing top billing with the S-class sedan on the Mercedes Benz stand, the Vision SLR concept definitely shook up the troops in Detroit while hinting at several technical and safety innovations eventually shared on future MB production machines. A claimed design fusion of the F1 champion Silver Arrow race car and classic mid 50’sa gullwing model, the Vision’s wild and wedgy bodywork was rendered in lightweight composite and aluminum. Underhood resided a 5.5 liter blown V8 that made 550 hp and 530 lb ft of torque. A new strain of electronically controlled and ultralight heat resistant ABS disc brakes provided the Vision with a magnum load of stopping power. Inside its brushed aluminum and leather bedecked interior, this radical two seater sported distinctive analog gauges, carbon fiber bucket seat, Mercedes new cockpit management and Data System with satellite navigation package and a unique oval steering wheel.
