1999 Mercury Cougar Test Drive

Those of you born prior to yesterday might recall the Cougar; it used to be a rear drive personal luxury conveyance based on the Ford Thunderbird. After a short hiatus, the Cougar came back, and my how it changed! Reappearing as a spunky front driver aimed at a youthful, fun oriented audience, the Cougar was the first expression of Ford Motor Company’s ‘new edge’ styling direction. Based on the Contour/Mystique sedan package, the four passenger Cougar shared much of that platform’s driving feel and its powertrains.
