01999 Porsche 911 Test Drives
With the creamy purr of a 3.4 liter 296 horsepower liquid-cooled new generation flat 6 as accompaniment, Porsche’s new 911 once again to raised the bar for other sports car makers. Benefiting from trickle up engineering from the less expensive Boxster, the new 911 was more comfortable and driveable than ever before, yet delivered performance that almost defied description. With the standard 6 speed manual transmission it ran a 174.8 MPH flat out, bunny hopped to 60 MPH in 4.9 seconds, and stopped like it’s come to the end of its tether. During 1999 a Carrera 4 all-wheel-drive version joined the line.
