02000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo LS Test Drive
No, that Monte Carlo you saw ripping around the superspeedway on Saturday morning TV ain’t quite the same animal that was sitting at your local Chevy showroom. All new for 2000, in production guise, horsepower was way down but refinement and comfort were way up, compared to the racer. The garden variety LS had a newly powered up 3.4 liter/180 horsepower V6 that was only a bit stronger than a NASCAR lug wrench. Go for the SS, and you’d reap the benefits of the 3.8 liter/200 horsepower V6 that better energized your fantasy life. A newly tightened body structure in all versions and the standard traction control in the SS gave the driver an aggressive handling option.
