Pontiac’s venerable GTO made a triumphant return for 2004 following a 30-year hiatus.  Based on the rear-drive Australian Holden Monaro, a 5.7-liter/350-horse LS1 V-8 (vee Corvette) was paired with a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.  All independent suspension, 17-inch alloys, dual exhaust, traction control, and rear limited-slip were standard.  A leather-trimmed 2+2 cockpit featured metallic pedals, a six-disc CD changer, and driver-information center.  Production was limited to 18,000 units for 2004.  Pontiac claimed the GTO would rockit 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and turned the quarter mile in less than 14.
