Chevrolet called the all-new 2005 Cobalt a “premium compact.” Based on GM’s Delta architecture, Cobalt sedans and coupes offered a 2.2-liter, 140-horsepower Ecotec four backed by five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. The SS coupe turned up the heat with a 2.0-liter, 205-horse supercharged four co-developed by GM Performance Division and Saab. Base, LS, LT and SS trims had specific interior and exterior cues, wheel and tire combos, and suspension tuning. Standards included air-conditioning, CD player and driver information center. Heated leather seats, OnStar, MP3 playback, and XM Satellite Radio were optional.
