Pontiac demonstrated at full volume that show cars could indeed come to life.  Pontiac’s production version of the Trans Sport show vehicle was so successful that it sprouted clones for development partner Chevrolet and carpetbagger Oldsmobile.  Buick wanted into the dreams-come-true business with the Park Avenue Essence, displayed to auto show audiences as the Essence concept car.  The Essence, a replacement for Buick’s aged C-body front drive Park Avenue series of luxury sedans, offered definite cues that brought to mind the classic Series III Jaguar XJ6.
