1981: Ford Planned Another Notch on its Belt
Ford was planning to return to vehicles with an even number of doors in 1982 when the 4-door notchback Escorts and Lynxes were planned to debut, with an extra side window built into the C-pillar, and a high, wide and handsome luggage trunk. The3-, 4- and 5-door Ford world cars reportedly contained more than 70 individual improvements for the 1982 model year, improvements derived from Ford’s own empirical research, comments from the motoring press, and customer complaints.
