02002 BMW Z8 Test Drive
Think of the handbuilt limited-production Z8 roadster as a thoroughly contemporary interpretation of the late ’50s BMW 507, with 40 years of engineering advancement added. Powered by a 5.0L/394-hp V-8 that it shared with the BMW M5 sport sedan, the Z8 ranked as one of the most impressive sports cars available in 2002. Power was delivered through a six-speed manual transmission. An alloy space frame was draped with an aluminum body, which kept weight down. Stability control, ABS, and traction control were all standard, while GPS navigation and StarTAC communications systems were among the few options.
