01992 Toyota Paseo Test Drive
For the budget-minded driver seeking something that was fun as it was frugal, it was a good time to be alive. A whole new wave of pocket rockets hit the streets in the early 90s, including Nissan’s NX 1600/2000, Mazda’s MX-3, and the Toyota Paseo. All delivered genuine sport performance at affordable prices, but the best in the value category was the new for 1992 Paseo. For under 10 grand, it was easy on your wallet, looked sharp, and was a kick to drive. Based on Toyota’s Tercel platform, this front drive 2+2 coupe came with a 100-horsepower 1.5-liter DOHC 16-valve four, which could be matched to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment included tinted glass, full wheel covers, cloth covered sport seats, rear window defroster, adn folding rear seatback. An optional sports package netted you a rear spoiler, alloy wheels, and a moonroof.
