1991: Tercel Turnaround

It was rumored early on that the Toyota Tercel coupe was to directly compete w/ Honda’s CRX.  Named Cynos in Japan and Paseo in the United States, it was mechanically identical to its sedan counterpart.  But, while the CRX was soon to be replaced, eventually renamed Del Sol, and competition from Mazda in the form of its MX3, with its unique 1.8L V6 on the horizon,  the Paseo never really directly competed, or induced cross shopping.
