1994 Volkswagen Golf III GL Test drive
If you were shopping for a Volkswagen Fox in 1994, you needn’t bother as it had been cancelled. Likewise, the Volkswagen Cabriolet had bit the dust. Volkswagen also experienced delays in bringing the all-new Golf III to the U.S. market. Instead of delivering a full lineup of models as planned for 1993, only the four-door made it to our shores. In 1994, a two-door would join the mix, but a GTI sport version with a 2.8-liter V-6 wouldn’t be offered until mid-year. Standard driver-and passenger-side airbags marked the big changes for the new season, as the nimble Golf III returned with its 2.0-liter SOHC four (115-horsepower), front-wheel drive, and four-wheel discs with optional ABS.
