Blazer and Jimmy were nearly identical full-size 4-wheel-drive vehicles that were introduced in this generation way back in 1973 as SUV offshoots of GM’s full-size pickup trucks. Base prices were slightly higher on Jimmy’s, but option prices were the same.  For 1989, these vehicles gained standard rear-shoulder belts, new grilles and exterior trim to look more like the newer Chevy pickups, and base coat/clear coat paint finishes.  In addition, corrosion-resistant 2-sided galvanized steel was now used in the rocker panels and tail panels.

Same went for the Suburban.  It was GM’s enclosed full-size truck that could be outfitted for passenger or cargo use.  The Suburban line was derived from the previous generation of full-size pickups, which was replaced for 1988.
