Yet another car to with roots to the K-Car platform, the Spirit/Acclaim were designed to take on the sensible intermediates from Ford, Honda and Toyota. But when it’s time to trade in practicality for adventure, Dodge introduced the Spirit R/T, a multiple personality car with fewer competitors. With a 224hp turbocharged four cylinder engine with only one horsepower than a Mustang 5 liter of the era, putting power through the front wheels produced obvious torque steer. Costing less than direct rival Taurus SHO, it proved quicker in a straight line, yet with less refinement. With comments like “a real rollercoaster ride, the smooth spirit personality is replaced with a saw toothed demeanor that would even scare Mr Hyde” it shows how raw the Spirit to be.
