1980: Son of Trans-Am?

In order to survive the 80s, an idea that automotive big wigs had in the late 70s, early 1980s was, instead of hanging apart all car makers should cross-pollinate ideas.  And by the looks of things they got together and said “let’s all build an economical 2-seater and market it around 1985”.  Well Pontiac was right in there, stumping for a plastic body 2-seat mid-engine sports car that incorporated powertrain and suspension bits from the X-car. The kicker was that by 1980, the project had been under development for a couple years, and had not approved for production.GM management torpedoed similar Pontiac aspirations in the late 60s and early 70s, however the atmosphere was different then.
