1978: 7-Piece Super Scout

International Harvester unveiled a modified Scout “concept vehicle” with a body made entirely of composite fiber and resin materials previously used in aircraft.  The bright orange 2-seater was built on a modified Scout frame, and the body was made up of only seven sections as opposed to 116 pieces for a stock steel Scout.  The conept Scout was several hundred pounds lighter than the stock version  and completely corrosion free.  International Harvester worked at its Midland,Texas facility to develop mass-production methods for the material and expected to build several thousand Scouts durin the 1981 model year.
