1978: Pinto Goes To The Front for 1980

Looking into 1978’s future revealed the new 1980 Pinto, slated to debut in the fall of 1979. This one was supposed to be front drive with a transverse for a la Fiesta, only larger displacement. There were to be massive plastic bumpers front and rear, and it will be offered in both two-door sedan and wagon styles but no 4-door. It was said to share bodies with the European Escort and some body parts, such as doors, with the Fiesta.
