1983: Honda’s Sport Economy Play

Honda followed up its successful launch of the 2nd generation Prelude with variation of the Civic: CR-X was its code name, as well as its production nomenclature.  The CR-X was an all-new design that borrowed little from the contemporary Civic line, but did share its underpinnings with the Civic to come.

The CR-x for the home market would feature a very occasional seat in the rear in addition to the two individual front seats, though export models only landed as 2-seaters.

The rendering show off a homely appearance with little embellishment except for the Prelude-like partially concealed headlights, that i think look quite fetching, and some sporty wheel options. The rear, on the other hand has some rather bland Nissan queues that didn’t match the attractive front.  Whether you like the production version or not, it’s clear the rending was not far off what rolled off the assembly line, considering how information was communicated in the early 1980’s.
