1983 Mazda 626 Test Drive
Mazda introduced the all-new 626 to replace the previous model, which appeared on U.S. shores in 1979. The revamped 626 came in three versions; a 2-door coupe, a 5-door hatchback adn the 4-door sedan. While the new car was roughly the same size as the old 626 and was aimed at the same market, it had little else in common with its predecessor. The 626 was now a front-wheel-drive car wtih a brand new transversely mounted 2.0-liter SOHC inline 4-cylinder. Independent suspension was used all around and the steering was rack and pinion.
