1984 Audi 500 Sedan and Wagon Test Drive
The most aerodynamic sedan in the world went on sale in 1983, and the first sight of it would have taken your breath away. The 1984 Audi 5000S with its drag coefficient of 0.33 got its smooth shape from some all-new construction techniques. There were no protruding rain gutters; the curved side windows, windshield and back glass were designed flush with the body; the underbody was smoothed to speed airflow under the car and wheel arches were eliminated so fender lines were in the same plane as the smooth disc wheel covers. Even tire valve stems were flush.
