1984 Audi 5000S Dest Drive
The Audi 5000 carried the flag for cars over $15,000 when it debuted in the early 1980s. It had one of the slickest looking bodies yet to come out of a wind tunnel and into production at the time.It claimed the lowest drag coefficient of any contemporary sedan sold here at 0.33. The lack of wind noise inside was positively eerie. Some complained about lack of power from the base 100-hp 2.1-liter 5-cylinder engine. The base car, which appeared mid-summer 1983 was joined by a Turbo version with 140 hp, and the special suspension, brakes, wheels and tires to go with the added oomph.
