1984: Ignore the Taillamps, This Was Not a Cutlass
As a matter of fact, this cobbled mule of a car was one of the prototypes of the 1986 General Motors E-Body platform. This Cadillac version was snapped as the front-drive coupe was undergoing parking trials in Tempe, Arizona.
While the 86′ E-cars would be built off of the same 103-in platform, exterior design differentiated would be much greater than the 1979-1985 cars, thanks to three specific roof-lines. The Cadillac would be proportioned just like the mule pictured here, with only minor refinements to the rear quarter window. The Buick ‘E’ was destined to feature a thicker sail panel that looked much like the 1979-85 Riviera. Rumor indicated the Oldsmobile may feature the most radical styling with a near fastback roof-line not unlike the 1966-68 Toronado.
