1989: Buick Clips Skyhawk’s Wings

July 1989:

General Motors announed it would discontinue the Buick Skyhak J-car and increase production of GM20 Skylarks.  The cancellation left the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunbird as the sole remaining models in a line of compacts GM though twould push back a tide of Japanese success stories.  According to GM figures through the end of March 1989, Skyhawk were down 43.1% over the same period in 1988.
