By 1989, GM insiders confirmed the next generation Chevrolet B-body sedan, the rear drive GM300, was well on its way out of the prototype stage and nearing production readiness. The radically aerodynamic 4-door was being prepared for the 1991 model year. Cadillac sources called their variation of the platform the GM380, to distinguish it and its Cadillac specific development from the Chevrolet program. It was unclear in many quarters of GM if the GM380 would be a replacement for the aging Brougham, the Caddy that refused to die. The big car, Cadillac’s only rear-driver of the time, still sold in profitable quantities, remained popular with traditional luxury buyers.
The Fleetwood ! I remember this one. I remember this story and thinking where are the bumper guards? The 1994 Cadillac Deville ended up looking like this car. It is funny with the knowledge we have as an after thought how we reflect back. Thank you for posting.
