1993: Chevy Illuminates Their Next Family Sedan

General Motors was moving to put more life in the flagging Chevrolet Lumina line, when it updated the structure, skin, and interior of the car.  In the transformation, coupe models would be discontinued.  As a Lumina nameplate that is. Powertrains would carryover, according to GM sources. Base cars were said to be considered to be equipped with GM’s cast iron 2.2-liter four cylinder. Up level engines were as planned, a 3.1-liter OHV and 3.4-liter DOHC sixes.  The high-performance Z34 model reportedly would be cancelled to make way for the follow-on SS nomenclature. The new Lumina showed attractive, if obligatory contemporary jelly-bean shape of the day.  The Monte Carlo would supplant the Lumina coupe.
