01999 Chrysler Citadel Concept Car
The Citadel concept may have stood out as the ultimate hybrid hybrid, a none too subtle blend of crossover packaging design and dual power source motivation. A 3.5 liter/253 horse gasoline v6 drove the Citadel’s rear wheels. The front wheels however, were powered exclusively by stored electricity from a battery pack that’s recharged via a regenerative braking circuit that effectively turned the cars 70-horsepower motor into an on board generator. This experimental drivetrain provided both the accelerative performance of a V8 vehicle and the all weather capability of a four wheel drive Jeep. Access to the Citadel’s appropriately spacious interior was excellent, thanks to dual power sliding rear doors and a power rear gate.
