2005 Pontiac GTO Test Drive
Entering its second year, the GTO received a welcome shot of adrenaline via a new engine. The 400-horsepower, 6.0-liter LS2 V-8 from the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette replaced 2004’s 350-horse, 5.7-liter LS1. Cranking out 395 pound-feet of torque, the GTO was just five pound-feet shy of the Corvette. Other changes included a new split dual-exhaust system and an optional hood scoop. This rear-drive Australian-built cousin of the Holden Monaro was fitted with a four-speed automatic or optional six-speed manual gearbox. Standards included a limited-slip differential, 17-inch alloys, traction control, and leather-trimmed 2+2 seating.
